Terps vs. Notre Dame in 2011

By Ben Linton

The Maryland Terrapins Football team has reached an agreement with Notre Dame to play a game at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland in the 2011 season. The game will be played Saturday, Nov 12th, the first time that the Terps will ever play at FedEx Field.

Notre Dame and Maryland’s first and only meeting back in 2002 in the Kickoff Classic at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, a game that the Irish won.

This is a great move by the Terps organization to schedule this game against one of the most historic college football schools of all time. Even though Notre Dame has fallen on hard times in recent years, if Maryland could beat the Irish in this game it would be a huge boost for recruiting and recognition to get the Terps back on track. This game will be played in new Notre Dame Coach Brian Kelly’s second season, and may possibly be the first season for Head Coach in waiting James Franklin.

I will be looking forward to this one for a while, in hopes that Maryland will come out on top so I can hear Lou Holtz cry on television.

Notre Dame?!

By Ben Linton

Okay so I would do a What Grinds My Gears video about this, but I don’t know how to do it so just humor me. As I was browsing on ESPN.com today, I found this video:

Its Lou Holtz saying that Notre Dame will make it to the National Championship Game vs. Florida. His reason is that they have a soft schedule, and return 11 starters on offense. But my question is an offense that did what? Win six games? Exactly. Quarterback Jimmy Clausen has one nine games in his two years at Notre Dame. So what makes Lou think that they will break out for 11 or 12? Obviously because he was the coach for the Irish way back in the day.

You know, as a sports writer, sports broadcaster, whatever you want to call it, your told to be objective. This is not an objective opinion. It is clear that Lou Holtz is just a big Notre Dame fan going up there and saying how they are going to do so well this year just because he still has feelings for them. Sure, I’m optomistic about Maryland this year, but I’m not saying that they will be playing in the Orange Bowl.

I really think Lou Holtz should just retire from being a college football analyst because 1. I can’t ever understand what he’s saying because of his lisp, and 2. He never has anything interesting or somewhat intelligent to say. And that is what grinds my gears.
