Wall Chooses Jersey Number

By Jesse Jones

Throughout his life, John Wall has been known to wear the number 11 on his jerseys.  His Twitter name even contains the number (@JimmyWa11).

However, the number 11 has been retired by the Washington franchise, in honor of Elvin Hayes.  So for the past week or so since being drafted, Wall has been asking people via Twitter what his jersey number should be.  Yesterday he decided.

John Wall will be wearing the number 2 on his back from now on.  Why?  He explained last night on Comcast SportsNet.

“I wanted anything with 1s in it, so 1 plus 1 equals 2,” he told Chris Miller.  “One of the main reasons was for my two fans, my mom and my dad,” he said.  “I wanted a new number that means the most to me for my mom and my dad.”

He would later add that in Roman numerals, the number 2 looks like 11 (II).
