Ravens Sign Kicker Graham

The Baltimore Ravens have signed kicker Shayne Graham. Graham signed a one-year contract and can earn up to $2.5 million total if he reaches certain incentives.

This signing brings competition to the kicking game in Baltimore, as the Ravens already have Billy Cundiff, who joined the team during last season. Cundiff went 12-17 last season and has impressed the coaches in minicamp thus far.

However, head coach John Harbaugh and staff believe that competition brings out the best in people, which explains the signing of Graham.

If Graham beats out Cundiff for the job, he will not have much to prove.  Graham is the fourth-most accurate kicker in NFL history, making 89.3% of his attempts.  Despite this, Graham was released from the Cincinnati Bengals after missing two key field goals in the playoffs last year against the New York Jets.  He plans to prove that he can still kick at the top level, claiming, “I think that’s something that will give me an edge coming into camp.  I feel like I’m not proving anything, but I’m fighting for something and I’m hungry.”

Graham has had some very solid games in Baltimore, having gone 7-7 in a 2007 matchup, a 51-yard kick in ’06, and a total of 15 made on 18 attempts.
