Terps To Play in Maui Invitational

By Ben Linton

The Maryland Men’s Basketball Team has accepted an invitation to partake in the 2009 Maui Inviational from November 23-25 at Chaminade University. The Terps will join a group of other interesting contestants, which include the Arizona Wildcats, Cincinnati Bearcats, Colorado Buffaloes, Gonzaga Bulldogs, Wisconsin Badgers, Vanderbilt Commodores, and the host school Chaminade. Four schools from this list made the NCAA Tournament last season, which should make for an exciting Inviational. The last time Maryland went to this tournament was in 2005, where the Terps lost to Gonzaga, beat Chaminade, and beat Arkansas to finish in 5th place. Look for the Terps to fair better than their previous appearance, which should make this a very interesting three days of basketball.

Federer Stands Alone

Roger Federer celebrates his victory at Wimbeldon

Roger Federer celebrates his victory at Wimbeldon

By Ben Linton

It took 4 hours and 17 minutes for Roger Federer to finally win his 15th major title at Wimbeldon today. Believe me, he earned every hour, minute, and second of it. It was the longest match in Wimbeldon history, and went to an amazing 5th set that included a record 28 games. His opponent, Andy Roddick, had a valiant effort and played about as well as he could, which speaks a lot for how good of a player Federer is. Federer did not break a game on Roddick until the 30th game in the 5th set. Both men’s serves were untouchable, Federe finished with 50 aces (a career high) while Roddick finished with 27. With this grand slam victory, Federer is on top of the tennis world with 15, passing Pete Sampras for the most. Both players played with unyielding metal toughness that truly made this spectacle great to watch. Roger Federer has now become the most dangerous man with a racket in hand.
